THE CUSTOMER

INNOVATIVE SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE

CMS has developed a SaaS solution that connects to third party black boxes in vehicles to determine whether or not a crash has occurred in live time.

Using CMS's real time crash alerting and data insights, insurers and fleets can reduce claim costs by up to 50%.

Their innovative Software as a Service model is disrupting insurance and fleet industries by delivering insights that drive significant business value.

THE CHALLENGE

MASS MARKET SOLUTION

Rising claims costs continue to be one of the biggest contributors to increasing insurance premiums and whilst annually the number of crashes occurring is reducing, total claim costs have flat lined or increased. This is driven largely by fraud and unnecessary costs being built into the claim.

Traditionally, crash reporting has relied on the driver manually reporting the incident. For various reasons, average crash reporting times are over 24 hours after a crash occurs. It is widely acknowledged in the market that this delay in reporting a crash is a key driver behind these increasing claims costs, often by as much as £1,000 each time a claim is not reported within a day.

Despite the clear market requirement for automated live crash alerting, a mass market solution has not yet been delivered due to numerous technical challenges. The ability to accurately detect the crash, filter out false alerts and validate crash data to refine the solution is challenging even for a single hardware provider for a single vehicle type. To provide automated crash alerting across multiple vehicle types with a technology agnostic software solution requires significant understanding of the technical challenges.

THE PARTNERSHIP

WORKING TOGETHER AND COMBINING EXPERTISE

M2M Cloud has worked closely with CMS since the company was founded, supporting both their R&D and product development work. This began with undertaking feasibility assessment work in early 2013 using specialist hardware and working with CMS to build the underlying architecture to support crash data. To support CMS’s strategic goals M2M developed the technology agnostic platform used by the company today. Most recently M2M worked with CMS to complete a mass data collection and filtering research phase. This involved integrating numerous research streams within M2M, CMS and external research bodies to deliver the first generation market ready solution.

Today the partnership goes from strength to strength with M2M continuing to be CMS’s key technology partner. This includes helping CMS leverage the machine learning capabilities within the Microsoft Cortana Intelligence suite. M2M Cloud’s membership of Microsoft’s high potential program has allowed exclusive access to resources at Microsoft.
